Five people were lucky to survive an early morning crash into a guard rail in North Stephentown last Saturday, August 22. It happened on Route 22 directly across the road from the intersection with West Road.

Grumbling could be heard all over the Village of Hoosick Falls when homeowners and businesses recently received their water/sewer and waste pickup bills for the rest of 2009 and two thirds of 2010. The bills had increased again this year. And they will undoubtedly continue to increase. However, a tour of the new Water Treatment Plant on Waterworks Road is an eye opener when it comes to what it takes to provide quality water to Hoosick Falls residents. DOT Absence Prompts Stephentown Disaster Plan

When the temporary Route 22 bridge over the Kinderhook became dislodged with the force of the rushing flood waters on the evening of July 29, there were no State highway people around to take charge of the dangerous situation. Fortunately, the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department was on the job keeping an eye on everything. They took the responsibility to close down the road, set up detour signs and direct traffic.
