Flood Repairs In Progress

The damage from the July flood is still being repaired in different area of the village, with major repairs still being made on Elm Street near the intersection with Church Street. The aqueduct is estimated to be about 130 years old (1890) and at this location is about eight feet in diameter.

Louis Schmigel, right, and his assistant work on placing a new catch basin under the street next to the underground aqueduct carrying Wood Brook under Elm Street in Hoosick Falls.

Schmigel complimented the men who did the brickwork, saying “In the four layers of brick, there was not one space between the bricks that lined up above or below with any other space between the bricks in another layer.”
