I have just returned from the parent information meeting concerning the Spain trip. While the $2400 price may seem like a lot, it includes round trip airfare, hotels, tour guide, tour buses, breakfast and dinner, and entrance fees for all of the scheduled attractions. There will also be numerous fundraising opportunities over the next year for students to help with the cost of their trip. I could tell that a number of parents would like to go on this trip with their child/children as well but the trip was designed for the students. This is not a trip that is required as part of a class curriculum, it is just a great educational opportunity and the students that really want to go, should be willing and ready to work for it. I am so glad that Berlin is finally allowing our students to have this opportunity because school districts all around us have been providing opportunities to travel abroad for their students and have done so for years.

The trip to Spain may have been approved by the Board, but I hear from my daughter that individual families must pay $2000 for airfare alone to Spain, and that parents are not encouraged to apply to accompany the class. Now, my daughter is all excited about this trip but the sad news is that we cannot afford it, nor will we send her to another country in today's political climate. Why is it that the BSB has approved something this major and this expensive without first querying the parents?

Thank you.
