Iv'e been visiting the area for many years, Cherry Plains included and that spring was a major reason for my visits. The water was delicious and pure, and never once had I any ill effects from the water, even sometimes at room temperature for several days. I would fill the fridge w/ poland spring bottles full of the best upstate water. It was a privilege to know about it. Doing routine testing would have been the wise choice instead of drawing conclusions from one incident. This extreme action of simply closing it off forever is laziness, simple mindedness, and overkill.

I was saddened to see that the spring is now permanently rocked over. A temporary fence was there for a while, but now someone has made it impossible to access the water at all. Wasn't the sign enough? I thought it was. The citizens of our valley who have used the spring for decades can now forget about using it again. The Health Department did not need to permanently rock over the spring, and should have tested the water at the very least. I am very sorry to see that spring go. I am also disappointed that the citizens of this valley had absolutely no say in whether they wanted to lose that very important source of spring water that many of us have depended on for years. I hope people speak out and make their voices heard over this. It's just not right.
