Wilderness Skills Day To Benefit Dyken Pond

August 13, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Take the family out to the pristine forests around Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center for a day of  wilderness awareness games and primitive living skills. The event runs from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, August 15, and offers a sampling of what regular Dyken Pond contributor, Tamakoce Wilderness Programs, teaches in their outdoor programs. Participants will have a chance to learn a range of skills, including matchless fire making, homemade wooden spoons and bowls, emergency shelters, bark craft, traps and snares, Atl Atl darts, once used to hunt game as large as buffalo, elk and perhaps even mammoths.
Participants can also play many never-before experienced nature games that are tons of fun as well as great teaching and learning experiences.
The Dyken Pond Environmental Center will also have kayaks and canoes available for rental. Some refreshments will be available, but please bring a lunch.  A donation of $10 per person and $25 per family of three will go toward the Center’s acquisition of a vital parcel of land slated for development. For more information or to pre-register, contact Dan Yacobellis at info@tamakocewildernessprograms.com or call 658-0328.
