Dick and Cathy Ogden of Hoosick started out in 2001 buying a used “backyarder” 2×4 evaporator to make enough maple syrup for their family. That year they had 80 taps and enjoyed it so much that in 2002 they traded the evaporator for a new 2×8. Each year since then they have added equipment and taps. In the 2010 sugarin’ season they expect to be up to 1,000 taps.

Dick and Cathy Ogden, of Running Brook Sugar Shack, offer a variety of maple syrup products at the Farmers Market in Hoosick.
Dick and Cathy feature maple syrup and a variety of maple products from their Running Brook Sugar Shack at the Farmers Market at Countryside Woodcraft on Route 7 in Hoosick each Friday from 3 to 6:30 pm. Dick and Cathy noted, “We enjoy participating in the Farmers Market in Hoosick. We get to visit with neighbors we don’t get to see too often, and we have met many new and wonderful families and neighbors.”
