          Taconic Valley Historical Society

          The Taconic Valley Historical Society was formed in 1973 to bring together citizens in the valley interested in the history of Berlin and Petersburgh, our country and our state. The major functions remain discovering and collecting materials relating to the history of our valley, preserving such material, and disseminating historical information through programs and publications.

          The Historical Society meets at the Berlin United Methodist Church on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 pm, March through November. Membership dues are $5. Write to P.O. Box 512, Berlin, NY 12022 for more information.  New members are always welcome!

            Open meetings, 8 pm Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, Hoosick Falls; Tuesday at St. George’s Catholic Church on Old Factory Road in Pittstown; Thursday at Grafton Community Library on Route 2; Friday at 7 pm at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Route 351 in Poestenkill.

              Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County

              Provides free, confidential tutoring to adults and out of school teens in reading, writing, and conversational English; recruits and trains volunteers to provide the tutoring for all of Rensselaer County. Tutor training classes held several times a year.

              C.E.O. Head Start

              Free preschool program for children 18 months, 2, 3, or 4 years old from income-eligible families. We provide a center-based program for children in the Hoosick Falls area from 8:30 am to 3 pm, following the public school schedule.               Hoosic Area Church Association (HACA)

              A community-wide Christian organization which operates the food pantry and sponsors sponsors community events such as Thanksgiving services, Christmas baskets, and Good Friday walks.
